I wrote my first program when I was in fifth grade. In the decades since, every aspect about coding has undergone multiple revolutions. One thing will never change: looking at the clock and wondering "Is my code taking longer than I thought to iterate through all that data, or is it just broken?"

Sorry, didn't mean to keep you in suspense: "Yes" to both. My code parsed thousands of files into table data successfully before it encountered something that made it decide to stop doing homework and go out to the backyard and twirl until it gets so dizzy that it nearly vomits into the firepit.

After years of the same morning habits, I've realized that I ease into my workday by gradually improving my posture. I begin work before I leave my bed, then move to a recliner before I finally move to a supportive chair at my actual desk. It's like that famous "ascent of man" illustration.

If College Andy saw me carefully commenting all of my code and even writing separate documentation on how to use it, he'd snort and make fun of me for apparently not being able to follow my own work. That's OK. Older But Wiser Andy knows that College Programmer Andy has a hell of a lot to learn.

I'm not kidding. Even as I'm just mapping out the process my future code needs to follow, I'm documenting how to perform that process manually. I've lost all of my instincts and muscle memory for HTML and CSS. If I don't keep super-tight notes, I'm guaranteed to bork my working code later.

I prefer the OG "Popeye The Easily Stirred To Violence Sailor Man With Nonexistent Impulse Control, Who Acts Without Fear Of Consequences From Man Or God, And Thus Is Truly Free." "Popeye The Highly-Public Role Model Who Has To Bury His Anger, Nay, His True Self, Every Minute" is just weak sauce.

Spent a couple of hours this afternoon conducting...er... ... Well, let's just log it in the time-management app as "research" and then break for dinner. (AI-generated video. Old-school Apple fans will probably recognize both of the source images I gave to Google Veo to create this clip.)

A quick note: Every day there's more political or social news that concerns/shocks/angers me. Have no doubt that I feel what most of you feel. I don't post about it here because I use Bluesky to relax and take a break from all of that. (Others use social media differently. That's 100% fine, too!)

Thank you for understanding. Here is a nifty photo of a squirrel.

This right here is PEAK POPEYE. "1930 Popeye Versus Wolverine" is. thing that needs to happen. Popeye can match Logan aggro for aggro. He'd also LOVE to fight a guy who heals fast. To 1930 Popeye, heaven is a fistfight that never ends. comicskingdom.com/thimble-thea...
