So often when I'm reading a writer's blog, I wind up shaking my head and quoting Crash Davis from "Bull Durham": "Christ! Get out of your own head, man!" And I do it out of sympathy, not out of scorn.

Nice comments on the art of writing. I feel the same way about programming: sometimes I have to stop thinking about doing something (I'm "analysing", I say) and actually do the work. It's not always easy to get it done, but my feet are becoming more and more capable of hitting my own ass, which helps.

"It just seems like a much more satisfying experience than collapsing across the finish line after having hobbled through the final nine miles at sub-walking pace, and then spending the next week recovering on the sofa and contemplating black toenails."

I think I remember that podcast of yours. :)
